Hello and welcome to the Secret Garden Tote (or Market bag) Crochet-a-long! Can you believe it’s almost the middle of June? Me neither, which means it’s high time for a nice looking bag to take to the beach, or farmer’s market, right! This tote can be made without the ribbon tie for those of you who would prefer a more functional/utilitarian bag. I’ll be explaining exactly how to make those adjustments in the 2nd part of the CAL.
For now, here is a list of the materials you’ll need to get a hold of, as well as the stitches you’ll be using–if you don’t understand all of them, that’s ok, I’ll be around to answer your questions!
6mm (J) hook
300-400 yards Lily Sugar’n Cream cotton yarn in the color of your choice. I used Hot Pink originally, but I’m going to be making the one for this CAL in Lime Green
yarn needle/ribbon needle
1.5-2 yards sheer, 7/8″ ribbon
fray check or clear nail polish
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
bsc = backward single crochet, also known as the crab stitch
3 dc cluster: dc3tog in the same stitch
Cross stitch: skip stitch, dc in the next, cross back and dc in the stitch you just skipped
3rd loop of hdc: Look at the back of the hdc stitch, and find the loop. Work all stitches for the round in that 3rd loop
