This basic newborn baby beanie crochet pattern is a perfect quick crochet project for beginners, or for those who want to donate hats to charity or their local NICU. The easy pattern is written for newborns and 0-3 months since those are the sizes that many hospitals need. I called my local NICU last week to see if they needed any baby hats. They told me they could use a lot of newborn/0-3 month sizes, so I got right to work! The Cranberries and Cream baby beanie pattern is pretty basic, and easy to make, plus it doesn’t use a large amount of yarn so it’s perfect for using up those left-over scraps! Using up scrap yarn and donating the results to a charity or a good cause is something I think many of us can get excited about!
Feel free to change the colors of this beanie up as you see fit. Since this crochet pattern is so basic it can be made for either boys or girls. Some NICU’s are choosey about the kind of yarn they want the hats made out of, so call ahead to the hospital to find out if that is the case in your area. I used Red Heart Soft for this project because it is a silky acrylic yarn, and is very comfortable to wear. It also feels nice sliding over my hands and hook, which is important when making lots of these baby beanies to donate!
Let’s begin, shall we?

-Colors are joined by pulling your new color through the last 2 loops (sc), or 3 loops (hdc) of the final stitch in the previous round.
-If your local hospital needs smaller hats for preemies, try using a 4mm hook when making the “newborn” size.
