Additional sizes have been added to this beanie pattern! You can now crochet this easy winter hat for babies and children as well.While adding additional sizes I decided to also switch up the yarns used to demonstrate how much fun long striping, color changing yarns can be.

Difficulty:
Beginner/Easy
techniques used: magic circle, post stitches, single crochet
Materials Needed:
5.5mm (I) hook, or hook needed to obtain gauge
Approximately 150 yds Roll With It Melange in “Hollywood” (Color A), approximately 50 yds Red Heart Soft in “Berry” (Color B)
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitches Used:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = Single Crochet
FPsc = Front Post Half Double Crochet
BPsc = Back Post Half Double Crochet
st/sts = stitch/stitches
prev = previous
Gauge:
4 1/2” across after round 9, or 5 1/2” across after round 11
Measurements:
0-3 mos: 4 1/2” tall, by 6″ wide
6-12 mos 5 1/2” tall, by 7 1/2″ wide
Child: 7 1/2” tall, by 8 3/4″ wide
Adult: 8 1/2” tall, by 9 3/4” wide
Additional Notes:
- ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as a stitch.
- This hat changes color several times. The easiest way I have found to change colors is to pull up the new color in the center of the last stitch of the round made with the old color so, for instance, when making the last single crochet stitch in round 20 (adult size hat), instead of pulling your working yarn through both loops on your hook, lay the new color over your hook, leaving a 4-6″ tail, and pull just that color through all your loops, then join the round as normal.
- I carry my two colors down inside of the hat, instead of cutting each round, that way there are not as many ends to weave in later.
- The recommended yarn is a lighter worsted weight yarn and is closer to Caron Simply Soft, or Paton’s Classic Wool in diameter. If you try to substitute with a heavier yarn, such as Caron One Pound, your hat will end up much larger.
