It’s hat weather once again, and have I got a cute pattern for you! It’s highly textured, and will keep you warm and stylish this fall and winter. With a different stitch on almost every row, the Sugar and Spice crochet slouch hat pattern is interesting to make, and has a unique look that you don’t see very often. Find the materials list below, and purchase a print-optimized, ad-free PDF by clicking here.
Doesn’t it look luxurious? I’m totally in love with the way this slouchy hat came out. Texture is something I’ve wanted to play around with all fall, and this crochet project was the perfect excuse for that. In fact, this will probably end up being my Christmas present to the women in my family this year because it’s just that fun to crochet!
This hat is warm and comfortable and the perfect winter accessory to any outfit. These pictures show this hat in neutral colors, but I’ve made a couple in bright colors, and it looks just as amazing. Honestly, I don’t know which is my favorite! There are so many beautiful colors in the Red Heart With Love and Caron One Pound lines that I know you will find something to fit anyone’s style!

Stitching in the “3rd loop” of hdc = Look at the top of the stitch, and locate the sideways “V”, bend the stitch to look at the back*, and you should see another “V”. You’ll be working into the back loop of that “V”, this is called the 3rd loop.

Your hat should measure 4.5″ across after round 4.
Measurements:
Finished hat should measure, un-stretched, about 10.5” tall, by 11” at the widest part of the hat.
You’ll need to be comfortable with doing post stitches, back loop stitches, and working in the 3rd loop of a hdc.
Loose tension is required! (Otherwise you’ll have a hat that fits your kindergartner… which is fine, if that is what you’re going for, but this was originally designed to fit the average adult lady’s head.) 😉

Hi Kristen 😊 this pattern is beautiful! I’m a little stuck on row 7. No matter what I end up with a 74 count. I even wrote out the stitches on paper and I still get 74. My previous row (6) definitely has 60 stiches. Is there any way you can help me out? Thank you so much in advance.
Kirsten says

Aren’t the bobbles facing wrong side?
Kirsten says
No, they are pushed forward so they are visible on the front side.
