As a yarn lover I was so excited to receive a package from Stash Yarn Club, a new subscription yarn kit service that includes a gorgeous hand dyed yarn (more on that later), and between 1-3 small trinkets or accessories to embellish your crafting experience, all wrapped up in a neat, brightly-colored package!
Look at all this gorgeous yarn from previous months kits! Doesn’t it inspire you to–greatness? Or at least an afternoon of crocheting something amazing? (Keep reading to find out how you can get your hands on the latest to add to your stash, I promise it’s coming.)
Crocheters as a group tend to pick yarn that is widely available from big name craft stores, and forget that there are also many indie dyers creating unique colorways to delight and inspire.
Heather, who is the founder of Stash Yarn Club (and also the designer behind The Unraveled Mitten) aims to change that by hand-selecting a specific dyer for her subscription box each month and then featuring their yarn in an exclusive crochet pattern she has designed for it. Exclusive, high-end, classy—perfect for the die-hard yarn lover!
She explains, “Stash Yarn Club is about the all about the yarn. I wanted to create a space where yarn lovers could come and celebrate the thing that ties us fiber artists all together, yarn. My main goal is create a yarn adventure for my subscribers, a journey exploring all the super talented dyers and makers out there.”
When she offered to send me a kit to play with I was thrilled—partly because, as I mentioned before, I love getting new yarn, and because crocheting with hand-dyed yarn is a rare treat! Each skein of hand-dyed yarn is a unique, one-of-a-kind art medium, and creates a piece unlike any others-even in the same dye batch.
The package did not disappoint! I received a squeezably soft, #1 fingering weight, grey sock yarn with purple, yellow-green, and fuchsia tones scattered throughout, a stylish head wrap pattern*, and some adorable bamboo buttons with outlines of sheep engraved on them. Sock yarn can of course be used for many more projects than simply making socks, and Heather has done a fantastic job of combining texture and color for the head wrap pattern in this crochet kit. You can now find the head wrap here on Ravelry.

Heather went on to share what she thinks you will get out of her subscription boxes, and the reasons you’ll be head over heels for the kits: [Laughing] “Well you’ll get yarn of course. Beyond that I hope to bring you out of your comfort zone a little bit and try a color or fiber you haven’t tried before. My club is a little bit different from the rest in that I don’t include patterns. I want the yarn to inspire you when you open up the envelope every month. Maybe you’ll stash it, maybe you already have the perfect pattern, it’s really fun!”
By the way, she does send out a round up of knit and crochet patterns perfect for that months yarn in her email newsletter which you can sign up for on her site.
There are a limited number of kits available each month and orders close when a kit is sold out, so I recommend getting your order in early, or even better, signing up for the monthly yarn club! This way you can be sure to get your hands on all this spectacular one-of-a-kind yarn.

If you are a passionate about yarn, and want to add some unique flair to your crochet or knitting projects then Stash Yarn Club is the membership you’ve been looking for. Heather sums it up this way: “I feel like us crocheters get stuck in that big box yarn store routine–not that there’s anything wrong with that, I love me some Lion Brand Yarn–this subscription is for the person searching for more. More unique colors, something more beyond acrylics and more yarn weight choices.”
With that objective in mind, she has created the kits in two different options: Basic ($29.95), and Premium ($44.95). The basic kit comes with that month’s yarn and a hand-picked goody. The premium kit contains the yarn, and between 1 and 3 small surprises which vary month to month. These might be things like stitch markers, buttons, a gauge checker, or a decorative pin. You never know what Heather will surprise you with!
You can head over to Stash Yarn Club right here to get more details. I’m sure you’ll be smitten!
And as an extra special treat,
For the next 5 days you can get a free skein of yarn with all new subscriptions. Ends June 26th, only valid on subscriptions, not one time purchases. Code = WELCOME
Disclaimer: I received a Premium kit in exchange for my review, but I can confidently say I would have reviewed it the same way even if I had purchased it myself.
*As of May, 2019 patterns are no longer included in the kits.
