Ever crochet a hat, scarf, sweater, or bag and think, “This needs something else, but I’m not sure what”? Me too. I’m always playing around with lace edgings, texture, and other crochet embellishments trying to discover the perfect stitch to compliment a design. I do a lot of frogging, but it pays off eventually, resulting in a beautiful new crochet pattern that I can share (and I really love sharing crochet designs with you)!
Because you’re not the only one that runs into the predicament with your crochet, several other crochet bloggers and I have put together a fun blog-hop for November, celebrating crochet, creativity, and innovation in a fun, new way. The Designer Remix event aims to solve the issues of “what else does it need?” by sharing free add-ons to scarves, hats, bags and more, remixing the original into a completely new crochet design! This might be a bit of lace trim, an added hood, a flower, or other unique detail that changes the look of a piece while keeping the basic stitches in tact.

Like I mentioned earlier, finding ways of adding a personal touch to your crochet projects isn’t just a skill for designers to possess–it is also a skill that will add value, and give a unique feel to the patterns *you* make. It may be unusual to think of a hobby that you do to unwind and relax as an area that you are developing actual skills in, but it’s true! Your creativity, and the ability to see how textures and stitches work together is a valuable asset that can be developed. Whoever thinks crochet doesn’t involve problem solving skills has never stared at a tub of blue yarn trying to find the perfect shade for their next project! It is the goal of this event to get your creative juices flowing, and show you ways of dressing up your next crochet project into something new and exciting!
Here’s how it works: You will go to the original designer’s site for the main part of the pattern, then you’ll come back and click on the remix to get the add-on. New patterns will be added 3 times a week throughout November, so please bookmark this page and check back often! Share pictures of your progress on Instagram using hashtag #CrochetDesignerRemix

I’m always getting asked “How did you become a designer?” Plain and simple, this is how: I looked at other designers crochet patterns, and added my own touches until I got to the point that I had the confidence to attempt something original. This Designer Remix event is essentially a throwback to how many of us crochet designers got our start in the biz.
It’s important to note we all asked for, and received permission from each other to do these add-ons. Remixing for your own personal use is usually fine, but always, always, check with the designer, and get their permission first if you ever wish to publish an add-on. Designing crochet patterns is a lot of work and respecting the designer’s wishes gets you far in this community.
